Watermelon grows wild in the semi-desert regions of southern Africa and is perfectly adapted to its extremely arid environment. Beneath the fruit’s thick skin lies a veritable food store - a sweet and tasty, coloured flesh which is highly thirst-quenching thanks to its very high water content (approximately 90%). An essential source of water which ensures the survival of man and animals living in desert regions, watermelon is grown today throughout the southern Mediterranean region and in all hot countries.
